Where are Giraffion Backpacks made?

Giraffion Backpacks are designed in Vancouver, Canada and manufactured in Asia.

Are Giraffion Backpacks waterproof?

Giraffion Backpacks are 100% waterproof and submersible.

What does submersible mean?

Submersible means the backpack is airtight. The backpack is tested extensively, submerging it underwater at a depth of one meter for 30 minutes to ensure it keeps the contents dry.

What is the difference between a backpack that is waterproof versus a backpack that is submersible?

A waterproof backpack can withstand a quick submersion. A submersible backpack can withstand 1 meter of submersion for 30 minutes, the IP-67 standard. Our backpacks fall into the submersible category.

With such ratings, water resistance depends on carefully and properly sealing the zipper closure, the zipper must be completely and properly closed.

How are the backpacks made waterproof?

We use a waterproof fabric called Weavemaxx, a premium fabric known for durability and resistance to abrasion, and Tidalwall, a watertight and airtight zipper closure technology engineered for use in extreme conditions.

Weavemaxx is an airtight, waterproof, UV resistant, high tenacity 840 denier nylon that stretches minimally, and is double coated with TPU, a thermoplastic polyurethane laminate.

Tidalwall is an innovative zipper that is opened and closed using a precision metal slider, protecting against the roughest weather, keeping your ideas and instruments safe and dry.

What are welded seams?

Radio frequencies, RF, are used in welded seams. RF welding is a method that uses electromagnetic energy to fuse materials at the molecular level, essentially joining two pieces of coated material together as one.

When heated to around 400 °F, Weavemaxx fabric welds to itself, generating a very strong, permanent link that eliminates the need for sewing or gluing. The resulting weld is stronger than the fabric itself, so extra sewing or gluing is unnecessary.

Sewn-and-taped seams are considerably inferior to this sturdy, reliable waterproof construction method. With sewn-and-taped seams, two pieces of coated fabric are sewn together with thread and a piece of protective tape is applied over the threads and seam to give water protection. An RF welded seam can resist twice the stress of a sewn-and-taped seam, making it more durable and protective. All our backpacks have welded seams.

How should I clean, maintain, and store my backpack?

Cleaning and maintaining your bag on a regular basis will significantly extend its life.

Backpacks can be cleaned with a soapy sponge and rinsed before air drying. After rinsing with fresh water, dry the inside thoroughly with a cloth or paper towel. Solvents, alcohol, or acid cleaners should not be used. Keep it stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place.

Do Giraffion Backpacks contain PVCs?

We do not utilize PVCs at all. We care about being PVC-free, therefore we designed our backpacks out of 100 percent sustainable, non-toxic TPU.
